Communication & Counselling
Do all students know who they can talk to, where they can find them, and when they are available? (Your school may carry a SAFE insert in student planners with this information on it.)
Could your school display SAFE posters and other info on school notice boards?
Is bullying discussed in the classroom as a part of the curriculum? For example in Citizenship lessons?
Does the school provide trained and visible adults and student mediators and buddies alike, can they be approached discreetly?
Does or could the school regularly invite outside agencies (for example Connexions) or the Police in to discuss the issues of bullying?
Do teachers take an interest in any bullying issues the school may have? Do they have appropriate training, and are they available easily to students?
Are there mediation groups? Can family and friends be invited into the mediation groups? Where and when are they?
Could your school have a SAFE box. An anonymous place to post issues or suggestions or requests for help. If so, where can this be found?
Is there an email contact within the school or a secure page on the school's website so that help can also be asked for without drawing attention to oneself?
Who is the main contact for students? Is it a school counsellor, is it the head of year, or is it the form tutor? Does the student know who it is?
Can victims of bullying and the bullies themselves ask for counselling freely, either via the school or an outside agency, for example Connexions Devon & Cornwall?
