SAFE Charter
This anti-bullying charter was an idea that came from 97FM Plymouth Sound, and after a meeting with a local secondary school principal, and other groups it was agreed that there was also a need for a charter that was agreed and adopted across as many schools as possible. It was identified that there was no city wide anti-bullying charter that came from the people that were really affected or worried about bullying the most - the pupils themselves.
We enlisted the cooperation from 12 out of the 14 secondary schools within the Plymouth area, and appealed to all 11-18 year olds for suggestions for the charter. We also sought volunteers for our SAFE Panel of students to help us compile the charter by touring the participating schools with our Plymouth Sound Thunder Bus.
We collected over 800 suggestions and enough volunteers from each of the schools to form our very own panel and take the charter forwards. With their help the results are here.
There is an audio version of the charter available. Get one by calling 01752 275 618.
For the students: The Charter was created by you, and couldn't be done without you. Thank you. Stand up and stay SAFE.
The Charter,
This charter has been designed with the full support of 12 out of a possible 14 city-wide secondary schools, alongside Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, Connexions Devon and Cornwall, and most importantly the pupils. It would not have been possible were it not for the generosity of The Plymouth Sound Trust.
The Safe Charter gives pupils empowerment and direction for help should they need it.
It is not designed to be an anti-bullying policy. This is a resource which schools can adopt ideas from or use as a thought-provoking tool.
Students, parents and guardians, can ask for ideas to be considered and/or implemented.
This charter will be distributed to all schools and libraries in this area, and will be accessible for use by pupils; parents and carers; and all school and associated staff.
